"Adopt a Light Switch" Campaign -Year 7
Year 7 students have commenced placing posters on light switches around the school as part of the “Adopt a Light Switch” campaign. Designed by former student and Sustainability Leader Ben Cazaly and now in the second year of running, the initiative was designed to raise awareness of electricity use and evoke cultural change in reducing the amount of lights switched on unnecessarily. The activity is a component of the year 7 “Flick the Switch” science unit. Year 7 students will have an opportunity to utilise electricity data and initiate ways to evoke cultural change, when they embark on the “Flick the Switch” Science unit during Term 2. Carbon Management student Michael Callahan has developed a “Classroom Energy Calculator” that will guide year seven students through the process of calculating the energy consumption of lighting in their classroom. They will then embark on the “Adopt a Light Switch” campaign, designing a light switch template and catchy slogan to help inspire others to “Flick the Switch” off and reduce energy consumption. |
