Initiatives implemented incorporate; “Cut the Wrap” (nude food) days and associated “I Like Waste Free Lunches” Rap, Year 9 "Clojoe" (combined Clonard and St Joseph's) Pedal Powered Short Film Festival, REDcycling (soft plastic recycling) , recycling workshops at local Primary schools, portable recycling stations, sustainable watering stations and wicking garden beds, chicken coop, Outdoor pizza oven, guitars made from recycled timbers, basketball ring posters in bins, bokashi fertiliser trials, aquaponics and bread clip competitions.
With a focus on reducing waste, an extensive recycling regime has been developed across both campuses.
Recycling of waste in the college grounds encompasses; Fully commingled recycling (Years 7 to 12), recycling ‘soft plastics’ (REDcycling-Yrs7 & 8), composting via worm farming and the Bokashi system, polystyrene, woodwork off cuts, sawdust and shredded paper. Paper is also recycled in the classroom with the use of paper "re-use" trays for storage. Various smaller items such as; ink toner, electrical goods, light globes, batteries stamps and brad clip are also recycled and we endeavour to minimise wasted paper by setting photocopiers defaults to double-sided printing.
